Scarlet – by Marissa Meyer

So, Scarlet is the sequel to Cinder by Marissa Meyer. When i heard that new characters were being introduced and would be playing a major part in this sequel i was completely dreading it :S Then, i heard that the Little Red Riding Hood story was going to be woven into the mix. I was positive that this would totally suck! How could you mix Cinderella, albeit a sci fi/futuristic re-telling of Cinderalla with Little Red Riding Hood and have it make any sense!

Super happy to say I didn’t know what the hell I was talking about! I’ve been super bad at reviewing books though i’ve still been reading like a fiend. It took Scarlet to make me get up off my lazy butt and write about how great this book really is šŸ™‚

It picks up where it left off in Cinder, with Cinder in prison and making a break for it. It introduces a new character, Captain Thorne who is hilarious. His lines are some of the best in this book. The story alternates between Cinder’s escape and with alternating chapters about Scarlet who’s grandmother may have information that could help Cinder and stop the Lunar apocalypse (you know, with Kai marrying the hideous Lunar queen and her taking over the world). Problem is her grandmother has been kidnapped. Enter super hot, mysterious, street-fighting guy named Wolf who happens to meet Scarlet at the diner she works at. See, Scarlet (red), the grandmother and the Wolf-love it;)

I have to say, i loved Cinder and Kai’s story in the 1st book, but i really loved Scarlet and Wolf’s story in the sequel. There’s a lot of action, some really good romance and Marissa Meyer has a way of pulling you into the world she created. She makes it so easy to visualize. There’s less Kai and Cinder in the sequel, but what is there lets you know there due for some really good scenes in the next book. If you’ve read Cinder, you HAVE to read Scarlet. If you haven’t read either, then what are you waiting for?! Definitely worth it.
